Mia is a jazz vocalist enchanted by the music of Brazil. With her warm voice, adventuresome arrangements and this ensemble of world class musicians, she’ll take you on a journey into the creative conversation between these two traditions as she delights in singing beautiful Brazilian melodies, playing in the waves of its rhythms and scatting her way back to jazz. You’ll hear Bossa Nova classics in English and Portuguese, pieces by contemporary Brazilian composers and her vocal scat versions of instrumental music. Mia will also perform new material from her studies in Sao Paulo of the rhythmic voice as she’s joined by old friends Matt King on piano and Itaiguarra Brandao on bass, and new collaborators Mark Dzuiba on guitar, Connie Grossman on flute and Chris Eddleton on drums. Come join us and be moved, grooved, soothed and uplifted!

Mia has performed with Brazilian Jazz masters Itaiguarra Brandao, Rogerio Boccato, Nanny Assis, Eduardo Belo, Renato Consorte, Cafe and Denis Bulhoes, as well as jazz masters who share her love for the Brazilian sound, including Matt King, Paul Meyers, Jason Ennis, and Anton Denner. She’s performed or recorded jazz with Donny McCaslin, Frank London, Roberta Piket, Nikki Parrot, Ratzo Harris, Pamela Fleming and Diane Moser in venues ranging from The Jazz Forum and the Cornelia Street Cafe to Casa Francisca in Sao Paulo. Mia’s CD “Encantada”, co -produced with pianist Matt King, was described as “irresistible, inspired and extremely enjoyable” by jazz critic Scott Yarrow.
