Bennett Harris is a fingerpicking acoustic blues guitarist whose playing draws heavily from the traditional Piedmont and Mississippi Delta regional styles. He learned fingerpicking technique via lessons with Ian Buchanan, who himself had studied with internationally-acclaimed guitarist Rev.Gary Davis. Ian Buchanan also tutored Jorma Kaukonen in the Piedmont format, and it was Jorma’s Hot Tuna picking which initially inspired Bennett to take up the same style. Several Hot Tuna songs are in Bennett’s current repertoire.
Additionally, Bennett later became taken by Delta slide playing upon seeing John Hammond Jr. perform on an old National steel guitar. National steel, slide, and harmonica feature prominently in Bennett’s presentation. The song list includes original compositions, as well as traditional tunes from the songbooks of Blind Blake, Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith and the like.
Jeff Keithline has worked for years as a professional bassist in numerous bands. He and Bennett met up in Woodstock several years ago, and have combined forces for a rich and dynamic musical offering. Jeff’s imaginative stand-up bass has a deep and compelling presence, expertly complimenting the twists and turns of Bennett’s intricate syncopated fingerpicking.
This is a lively and energetic show; Bennett is an engaging performer, who sings with good humor, gusto and passion. You will be thoroughly entertained!
